Account verification: what to expect

Applies to All Portal accountsAudience Account adminsLast reviewed September 2026

Quick answer

Go to Account → Verification in Portal. Every account completes email verification and registration automatically. On top of that, some accounts must also complete identity verification (KYC), and business accounts may need business verification (KYB). This doesn't hold up ordering: you can start using the platform right away and have 30 days from registration to finish verification. A progress bar shows how far along you are.

Portal uses single sign-on, so signing in doesn't by itself prove who's behind the account. Verification is the separate process that does that. Not every account needs every step: some accounts are exempt, and business verification only applies to business accounts.

The three possible steps

1

Email verification

Confirms you control the email address on the account. Handled automatically as part of sign-up.

2

Registration

Your account and organisation details are on file and complete.

3

Identity verification (KYC)

Confirms who you are as an individual. If this step applies to your account, the Verification page shows it as Pending with a Continue verification button that opens a secure, external verification flow in a new tab. If you closed that window before finishing, come back to Account → Verification and pick up where you left off, rather than starting over. This step doesn't delay ordering, and you have 30 days from registration to complete it.

Business accounts: there's a fourth step: Business accounts may also need to complete business verification (KYB), confirming the company itself. This is separate from the individual identity check and only applies when your account is registered as a business.

Why you might see this at all

Verification exists to keep the platform safe for every customer on it, the same reason most infrastructure providers run some form of identity check. If your account shows a pending step, that's normal, it doesn't mean anything is wrong with your account, it means one part of the process hasn't been completed yet. Overall progress (shown as a percentage) reflects how many of the steps that apply to your account are done.

What "Continue verification" actually looks like

Clicking through opens a short, guided flow run by an external verification provider, not a page inside Portal itself. The exact screens depend on that provider. The illustration below shows the typical shape of this kind of flow:

Verify your identity

Protecting your account, securely and quickly.

1. Photo ID

Photograph a government-issued ID document.

2. Quick selfie scan

A short live selfie, to match against the ID photo.

3. Automated verification, then you're returned to Portal
