The new service is hosted and operated entirely in the Netherlands, combining data sovereignty, resilience, scalability, and predictable costs — without relying on hyperscaler services.

Naaldwijk, The Netherlands / Bologna, Italy — 11 March 2026 — Cubbit, the first geo-distributed cloud storage enabler, and Worldstream, a Dutch cloud infrastructure provider operating its own European data centres and network, today announced a new Business Alliance Partnership to equip Dutch enterprises with fully sovereign, secure, cost-predictable, and flexible cloud storage services.

Under this agreement, Worldstream is integrating DS3 Composer — Cubbit’s software-defined object storage — across its three data centres in the Netherlands to create and offer its own S3 cloud storage service, fully hosted and operated by Worldstream on its strategic assets. This partnership marks Cubbit’s first Business Alliance Partner in the Netherlands, expanding the availability of geo-distributed storage through an in-country service built on 100% European technology.

Worldstream has spent more than 20 years designing, building, and managing IT infrastructure, developing deep expertise across object, file, and block storage.  The move responds to a clear shift in customer demand for S3-compatible, fully European storage that is independent of hyperscalers and aligned with data sovereignty and compliance requirements. Over the years, public cloud storage has been widely adopted by Dutch organisations, but it increasingly raises concerns about geopolitical risk, data control, and unpredictable fees. On the other hand, on-premises object storage ensures control, but comes with high costs, inflexibility, and operational complexity — requiring significant IT resources.

With Cubbit’s DS3 Composer, Worldstream can deliver flexible service tiers from a single, intuitive admin console, combining full national data sovereignty and localisation with an architecture designed for high availability, resilience, and no technological lock-in. Cubbit’s technology “pulverises” data — encrypting it, fragmenting it, and replicating it across multiple locations of the user’s choice —  so it is never exposed in full and remains always accessible. This approach supports customers’ compliance posture, including requirements connected to GDPR and NIS2, while helping Worldstream deliver predictable economics and a premium, highly scalable service that remains price-competitive.

Worldstream is launching the service with an initial capacity of 1 petabyte, with further expansion planned in the coming years. Key use cases range from backup and active archiving to content delivery. Cubbit will back Worldstream with ongoing technical and commercial cooperation, including training, sales support, and joint go-to-market initiatives, to ensure high SLA standards and service quality. The software will run on Worldstream’s own bare-metal solutions and high-performance network. Worldstream will provide 24/7 customer support through its professional service desk, with a proven seven-minute response time, ensuring continuous availability and reliable technical support.

Ruben van der Zwan, CEO of Worldstream, said:

We see more and more organisations reassessing their dependency on hyperscalers. Not because cloud doesn’t work, but because control, predictability, and data sovereignty have become critical priorities. With this S3 service, we offer a fully European alternative that delivers the same flexibility, while giving organisations maximum control over their data and costs. This is a logical next step in our evolution as an independent cloud infrastructure provider.

Alessandro Cillario, co-CEO and co-founder of Cubbit, said:

We selected Worldstream as our partner for the Dutch market because we immediately shared a common vision: the idea of building a fully sovereign and flexible alternative for Dutch customers, giving them an outstanding storage solution based on a European software stack and Dutch infrastructure. As geopolitical dynamics evolve and more organisations treat data sovereignty, control, and compliance as non-negotiable, Worldstream can now offer a service that combines predictable costs and high scalability with a 100% European, geo-distributed architecture designed for national data sovereignty and resilience.

Cubbit and Worldstream will showcase this joint solution at CloudFest 2026, which will take place on 23–26 March 2026 at Europa-Park, Germany (Booth Z06).
