Worldstream remote access VPN
Quick answer
To reach a dedicated server's management controller (Dell iDRAC, HP iLO or IPMI, depending on the hardware), connect the Remote Access VPN first. The VPN profile and the client for your operating system are both on the server's Remote Access tab in Portal. This is separate from Portal's mesh VPN feature, which connects your own devices to cloud infrastructure like Flexible VPS and the Firewall. Both exist and serve different purposes.
Not the same as the mesh VPN: Portal also offers a separate mesh VPN feature (built on Headscale/Tailscale). That one connects your own devices to your cloud infrastructure, things like Flexible VPS and the Firewall. The Remote Access VPN described here is specifically for out-of-band access to a bare metal server's management console, a different purpose entirely. Both exist side by side, this method hasn't been replaced.
For out-of-band management of a dedicated server, meaning access to the server's management controller (Dell iDRAC, HP iLO, IPMI and similar) rather than the operating system itself, you connect through a VPN first. The management network is not reachable without it.
Get your connection profile
Open your server in Portal under Compute → Bare Metal and go to its Remote Access tab. The VPN profile and the setup instructions for your operating system are both on that tab. Download the profile from there.
Connect the VPN
Install the VPN client for your operating system as described on the Remote Access tab, import the profile you downloaded, and connect. On Windows, run the client as an administrator so it can create the network route it needs. Keep the connection up for as long as you need the management interface, and disconnect when you're done.
Find your management IP
The Remote Access tab also shows the controller type and the management IP address, plus credentials where the portal has them. With the VPN connected, open that management IP in your browser to reach the controller's web interface.
