Connecting to your server for the first time
Quick answer
Connect over SSH with ssh username@vps-ip-address, using the username and SSH key you set when creating the VPS. If you haven't set up SSH yet, use the browser-based VNC Console on the VPS detail page instead.
Connecting over SSH
Once your VPS is running, connect from a terminal:
ssh username@vps-ip-address |
|---|
Use the username and SSH key configured for the Linux user account when you created the VPS. If you set a password instead of, or alongside, an SSH key, you can authenticate with that.
Adding an SSH key
Add it ahead of time
Go to Compute → Flexible VPS → Settings in Portal and add your SSH key there before creating a VPS. It's then available to select during creation.
Or add it during creation
On the Create VPS form, you can paste an SSH key directly into the User Account section instead.
No SSH access yet? Use the VNC Console
If you haven't configured an SSH key or password, or you just need to check on the server directly, open the VNC Console from the VPS detail page (under Overview). It opens in a new browser window and gives you direct, browser-based access to the server's screen, no SSH required.
