Worldstream network architecture
Quick answer
Worldstream networking in Portal is built from three network types: an External Network for internet-facing VPS, a Dedicated Subnet allocated exclusively to your tenant, and a Local Network, a private overlay network you create yourself.
The three network types
| Type | What it is |
|---|---|
| External Network | Public IPs for internet-facing VPS instances |
| Dedicated Subnet | A subnet allocated exclusively to your tenant |
| Local Network | A private overlay network that you create yourself |
External Network
This is the network type behind any VPS that needs to be reachable from the internet directly, using a public IP address. It's the default choice for internet-facing services.
Dedicated Subnet
A Dedicated Subnet is allocated exclusively to your tenant rather than shared. Use it where you need a subnet that's fully yours, separate from other customers' traffic.
Local Network
A Local Network is a private overlay network that you create and manage yourself. It's useful for connecting VPS instances to each other without exposing that traffic to the internet.
Go to Networks
In Portal, open Networks and select Create Local Network.
Enter a region and a name
The network is created for that region under the name you give it.
Once you have VPS instances attached to your networks, the VPS Network Overview page lists each VPS with its network, IP, and status, giving you a single view across all three network types.
Reserved and grace-period IPs
Public IPv4 addresses can be held indefinitely using Reserve an IP in IP Management, with an optional label, until you release them. Direct reservation needs an active Flexible VPS subscription.
When a service holding a public IP is deleted, the address enters a 7-day grace window rather than being released immediately. During that window you can release it or convert it to reserved. Package IPs on Bare Metal servers sit outside this pool.
